Svolvær aurora tour prices, cruise to minibus
A seat on a northern lights tour from Svolvær costs from ~$106 on the evening cruise up to ~$199 in a 14-seat van. The four road tours sit close together on price, so the differences lie in group size and in what each fare includes. Below, the five tours side by side, then the extras nobody prices in.
Five tours on one table
The table shows each tour's regular "from" price per person on GetYourGuide. The booking page sometimes shows a lower figure on a given date, so read these numbers as the upper end rather than the final bill.
| Tour | From | Length | Vehicle and group | Start or pickup | Included | Age limit | Free cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Raido Adventures (our pick) | ~$177 | 5 h | Small group, max 8 | Pickup at five points in Svolvær | Warm drinks, food, tripod and camera to use, headlamp, photos by link | None listed | 24 h |
| Lofoten Insight | ~$194 | 4 h | People carrier, up to 32 (Viator says 8) | Svinøya Rorbuer | Hot drinks, souvenir photos | 12 and over | 24 h |
| RAW Lofoten | ~$177 | 4.5 h | Mercedes V-Class with glass roof, max 7 | Torget 18 | Hot drinks, wool blankets, photo help | 10 and over | 24 h |
| Lofoten Aktiv | ~$199 | 4 h | Van, up to 14 | Tourist information, Torget 18 | Guide and transport; food and drinks unclear | None listed | 24 h |
| Brim Explorer cruise | ~$106 | 3.5 h | Hybrid boat, up to 100 | Pier at Torget | Guides on board; café drinks extra | None listed | 24 h |
All five cancel free until 24 hours before departure, and GetYourGuide lets you reserve now and pay later on each one. If the operator calls off a night because of the weather, you get your money back.
The cruise is the cheapest seat
Brim Explorer's evening cruise from ~$106 costs well under any road tour. The boat leaves the pier at Torget in the middle of Svolvær, so there is no pickup to arrange and no van to wait for.
The low fare comes from scale, with up to 100 guests sharing the boat. Food and drinks from the café on board cost extra, so a couple of hot chocolates narrow the gap a little.
What you give up is mobility. A boat cannot drive inland when clouds sit on the coast, and Brim scores 3.8 from 30+ reviews on GetYourGuide, the lowest of the five. Our cruise or minibus comparison weighs that trade in detail.
Four road tours within a narrow band
The van and minibus tours sit close together. Raido Adventures from ~$177 and RAW Lofoten from ~$177 share the lowest road price, while Lofoten Insight lists ~$194 and Lofoten Aktiv asks ~$199.
Lofoten Insight's regular price is often shown lower on the booking page, which can make it the cheapest road seat on some dates. Lofoten Aktiv is the dearest seat on our list and sells on GetYourGuide only.
One detail stands out. The 7-seat and 8-seat tours are the two smallest groups and also the two cheapest road tours, so paying more here does not buy you a quieter van. Our guide to group sizes explains why that matters on the night.
What each seat buys
Raido Adventures packs the most into the fare. Warm drinks and food are included, the guide lends a tripod and camera, and you get a headlamp for the night. A bonfire is lit if the weather allows, and photos arrive by link within 72 hours, usually sooner.
Lofoten Insight serves hot drinks, and its photographer guide takes souvenir pictures that reach you within 48 hours. The guide also explains the science and the old stories behind the lights, and you stay close to the people carrier to warm up between bursts.
RAW Lofoten hands out hot drinks and wool blankets, and the guide helps with camera settings on anything from a phone to a DSLR. Reviews mention guests being dropped at their accommodation afterwards.
Lofoten Aktiv's listing is unclear about food and drinks, so do not count on them and bring a flask. It asks guests to bring a camera and tripod, and some reviewers say their guide sent photos afterwards.
The fullest fare among the road tours
Raido Adventures' five-hour chase for up to 8 guests, with food, warm drinks, a borrowed tripod and camera, and photos sent afterwards. It holds the top score of the five on GetYourGuide, 4.9 from 50+ reviews.
Costs the listings leave out
Warm clothing comes first. Standing outside near freezing for hours calls for insulated boots and proper layers, and none of the five listings mentions lending thermal suits. Our clothing guide lists what to pack or rent.

The second is a spare night. Clouds can cancel a tour, or a tour can run and find nothing, and a tour that runs under a blank sky is not refunded. Budget for a second try, as our guide to cloudy nights explains.
Drinks and snacks from the café on the boat are extra. Lofoten Aktiv's listing mentions tips, which does not mean they are expected, so tip if the guide earned it and skip it if not.
Private tours and when they pay off
Private tours from Svolvær are priced per group and run to several times the price of a seat. Raido Adventures offers a private version of its tour for up to 8 people.
For a family or a group of friends filling most of a van, the cost per person can come close to buying seats. For two people, a shared small-group tour gets you nearly the same night for far less.
How to keep the bill down
- Book on your first or second night, so a cloudy first try leaves room for another
- Use reserve now and pay later on GetYourGuide, and cancel free up to 24 hours before if the forecast turns
- Check the date you want for a lower price, especially on Lofoten Insight's tour
- Bring your own warm layers instead of buying them in town
- Choose the cruise only if the cheaper seat matters more than the chance to chase clear sky
Timing affects the cost too, since a stay in the darker months gives you more hours to try each night. Our guide to the months covers the season, and the comparison on the home page sums up all five tours.
